In the 1950s, auto manufacturers switched from cartridge-style oil filters to spin-on filters. So, if you’ve got a vintage engine, but you want to use a modern oil filter, you’ll probably need one of these oil filter adapters. Some adapters have additional features, like oil cooler fittings, remote filter adapters, or bypass eliminators. They might also allow you to reorient the filter for better access, or mount the filter remotely.
