Oil Catch Cans
Normally, the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve uses intake vacuum to relieve the pressure inside your crankcase, but that can result in oil mist and other blow-by contaminants building up on the valve and pistons, especially in direct-injection engines. An oil catch can (sometimes called an air/oil separator) is installed between the PCV valve and the intake, where it removes contaminants and allows only clean air to return to the intake manifold.
Some have a reservoir that needs to be drained regularly, while others are plumbed to return the oil to the crankcase.
Breather Tanks
In forced induction and racing applications, the build-up of crankcase pressure can be much greater, so a breather tank is designed to vent that excess pressure into the atmosphere. They capture some blow-by with a catch can and air filter, and they may have an oil return. Importantly, breather tanks may not meet local emissions standards.
Top Brands
These devices are easy insurance for your high performance engine, and some builders use both a catch can and a breather tank. Summit Racing Equipment carries catch cans from trusted brands like Moroso, Mishimoto, Canton Racing, Ford Performance, JLT Performance, and many more.

Mishimoto Baffled Oil Catch Cans
Mishimoto baffled oil catch cans are designed to separate oil particles from the PCV air that would normally have just been routed back to your intake. They feature custom grooves in the catch can's inlet that turbulates the air longer and ensures that all of the oil sinks to the bottom, leaving nothing but clean air to pass through the 40 micron bronze filter to the intake. An internal baffle keeps the collected oil from splashing around under race conditions. These catch cans are machined from 100 percent billet 6061 aluminum, and accept AN fittings at the inlet, outlet, and drain area—allowing for over 27 possible configurations. For maximum fitment options, the top cog mounting setup enables the cans to be mounted from multiple angles. To make maintenance easy, the drain plug can be removed to allow for AN return to the oil pan. Mishimoto baffled oil catch cans are washable, unlike many other cans that require you to replace your filtration system, and they're available in a variety of colors. Order the model recommended to fit your vehicle, engine, and/or transmission application.

Mishimoto Oil Catch Cans
Over time, harmful oil will build up inside of the turbocharger, intake manifold, intercooler, and piping. These Mishimoto oil catch cans are designed to help prevent this from happening. By sending the extra oil to the cans, it will stay out of the pressured turbo plumbing, which can lead to couplers coming off under boost. They will also make sure that oil vapors stay out of the intake system, which will help combustion temperatures and reduce overall efficiency.
