Why start your engine build with a dirty, old, worn-out production block that needs hundreds or thousands of dollars of machine work--when you can start with a new heavy-duty casting full of high-performance features. We ship these blocks mostly finished but leave the cylinder bore .005" undersize, your machine shop will have to hone them for proper size. Direct from Chevrolet Performance are these 454 c.i.d. bare engine blocks. These are special Gen. VI bare iron blocks with 4.25 in. cylinder bores with 4-bolt main bearing caps. They have machined fuel pump pads, a one-piece rear main seal design, and standard 454 deck height. The maximum cylinder bore on these blocks is 4.25 in. plus .060 in. O.S., and will require the "Gen V/GenVI" design one-piece oil pan.

Chevrolet Performance Bowtie big block Chevy cast iron engine blocks are CNC-machined. The race-prepared blocks feature blind head and accessory mounting bolt holes, a deck configuration that enables the use of any big block Chevy cylinder head—and cylinder bores that may be safely bored to a 4.600 in. maximum diameter, while maintaining a .250 in. minimum cylinder wall thickness. These engine blocks differ from the production-machined Bowtie versions in certain areas; they start from raw castings and are not "conversions." They also use a rear seal adapter to convert the Gen V/VI one-piece rear main seal to a Mark IV type 2-piece seal that facilitates the use of a widely available Mark IV style crankshaft. The intermediate caps also feature 16 splayed outer bolts, which anchor the caps into the strongest section of the blocks and prevent bearing cap movement under high loads. The main oil gallery on these blocks is relocated and enlarged to a 9/16 in. diameter to allow increased oil flow through the block. These Bowtie blocks have inner head bolt bosses, which allow for better retention of the cylinder heads in high-horsepower applications when the cylinder heads "lift" from the blocks due to high cylinder pressures. Canton Racing has designed these main cap girdles to reinforce the alignment of the main caps and counter the limited webbing and weaknesses of those stock blocks. These main cap supports are laser-cut from 1/2 in. to 5/8 in. steel and feature CNC-machined mounting holes and rod notches for stroke clearance. Designed for use in competition engines, as well as to meet the exacting standards and demands of professional engine builders, ARP bolts are forged from 8740 chromoly steel and feature a reduced wrenching head, large underhead radius, and rolled threads for the utmost in reliability. The threads are rolled after heat-treating which gives them about 2,000 percent better fatigue strength than most main bolts that are threaded prior to heat-treating.
