The XD versions feature heavy-duty tool steel pushrod seats. This adds strength and durability in extreme-duty applications, such as turbo drag cars and offshore powerboats. Certain engines respond better to a light lifter pre-load because it recovers more quickly from any bad harmonics in the valvetrain. Others work better with a heavy pre-load because oil volume is reduced under the plunger, which increases lifter stiffness. The hydraulic roller lifters are designed with oiling and inboard link bars, they're engineered to withstand the demands of aggressive cam lobe designs and increased RPM ranges.
