They have a solid-bushing chain for a true bearing surface that rolls with the sprockets, eliminating chain stretch. The crank gears are machined from stress-proof steel. Most Melling timing chain sets have three keyways to ensure accurate timing for early or late model vehicles, and to allow you to set the cam timing at 4 degrees advanced, 4 degrees retarded, or stock. However, 50-state (stock replacement) sets have single keyways. The chains are available in several styles, such as single or double roller, single non-roller, and link belt. The OE rocker arm bearing design is a proven weak link in high-performance LS engines because the bearings are unable to cope with high lift cams, higher valve spring pressures, and sustained high-RPM use. Plus, the uncaptured design allows the needle rollers to be ejected into the crankcase, potentially causing catastrophic engine damage. For maximum increases in low-end torque, engine vacuum, and improved idle quality, Rhoads V-Max variable duration flat tappet lifters are the answer. These unique lifters are designed to significantly increase low-end torque and engine vacuum. This makes them the best choice for hot street, performance marine, and all racing applications. Typical vacuum increases range between 3 to 5 in. at idle when used with bigger cams. They are fully adjustable and require an adjustable valvetrain. Adjustment is similar to solid lifters--simply use a feeler gauge to adjust the exact amount of lift reduction you want, anywhere from .010 in. to .030 in., and that is exactly what you get at idle. Duration is reduced between 5 and 20 degrees at .050 in. lift, depending on the adjustment. As the rpm increases, so does your valve lift and duration. Complete lift and duration restoration take place at approximately 4,000 rpm. V-Max series lifters are also particularly suited for racing applications with vacuum rules. You can run more cam than your competition while still meeting vacuum requirements, giving you the performance advantage.

Summit Racing™ HDR premium thick-wall pushrods are a great upgrade for your engine. Factory pushrods (and even .080 wall aftermarket versions) act like a pogo stick in a running engine. Not only is static spring pressure working against them, it's also the valvetrain inertial mass increasing with RPM. This reduces power and valvetrain life. While a .080 thin-wall pushrod may not break, it doesn't mean it's the best option. Enter the HDR's. Summit™ used FEA (Finite Element Analysis) in the initial testing. We didn't just compare them to thin-wall welded-ball factory pushrods, but with aftermarket models, as well.
