Forged H-beam and I-beam connecting rods for GM, Ford, and Mopar
Available in standard and stroker lengths
Designed for naturally aspirated, boosted, and high-revving applications
Offered with ARP fasteners for superior clamping strength
Ideal for street builds, race engines, high-power applications, or forced induction setups
Whether you're assembling a high-revving small block Chevy, a turbocharged LS engine, a stroked Ford Windsor, or a beefy small block Mopar, our line of Summit Racing Connecting Rods has you covered.
Choose from forged 4340 steel H-beam and I-beam applications to match your power goals and budget. Each rod is designed for optimal strength-to-weight ratio, precise machining tolerances, and balanced performance under extreme load.
Many sets include high-strength ARP rod bolts and feature full floating wrist pin compatibility.
Whether you're after reliable street performance or all-out racing durability, Summit Racing Connecting Rods are ready to hold it all together.
A. It depends on the application, but generally, H-beam rods are considered stronger when it comes to handling high horsepower, boost, or nitrous. Their wider cross-section provides excellent resistance to bending and twisting forces, which makes them popular in drag racing and high-boost engines.
I-beam rods, on the other hand, are typically lighter and more than adequate for naturally aspirated builds or engines with moderate power levels. They're a great choice when you're trying to keep rotating mass down, especially in high-rpm applications.
If you're building a street car or a mild performance engine, I-beams are usually fine. For high-stress, high-power builds, H-beams are the safer bet.
A. Connecting rods by themselves don’t increase horsepower—they don’t add power the way a turbocharger or better-flowing cylinder heads might. However, they’re a crucial supporting upgrade that allows your engine to handle more power safely.
Upgrading to stronger rods (like forged H-beams) can give you the confidence to run higher rpms, more boost, or more aggressive timing—conditions that could snap stock rods. In that way, they enable you to make more horsepower reliably, especially if you're pushing past factory limits. Weak rods in a high-power build can be a ticking time bomb, so a strong set of rods is essential for performance and durability.
A. It is very common for a bent or broken connecting rod to cause catastrophic engine failure. In many cases this can destroy an engine beyond repair within seconds. Here’s what can happen:
Rod knock: A worn or loose rod bearing may cause a deep knocking noise, especially under load.
Bent or broken rod: If a rod bends or snaps, it can punch through the engine block, damage the crankshaft, and even jam the rotating assembly.
Severe vibration or seizing: When a rod fails, it often throws the engine out of balance, leading to catastrophic internal damage.
If you hear knocking from the bottom end or notice metal flakes in your oil, it’s best to shut the engine down immediately and investigate. Replacing bad rods early can save you from a full engine replacement later.
