Vehicles use the vacuum generated by the engine to operate the power brake booster and other pneumatic systems. The vacuum pump is an engine-driven accessory that ensures that there’s always plenty of vacuum capacity.
Upgrading to a high-lift cam can reduce the available vacuum, so you may need to upgrade your vacuum pump as well. For more vacuum troubleshooting tips, click here.

Maintain your brake vacuum level with one of these Summit Racing™ vacuum pump and reservoir kits. They're self-contained units that require no wiring of the relays or switches. Simply connect the positive/negative power—and the units will regulate the vacuum level itself. The vacuum pumps are designed to activate when vacuum drops below 15 in. and increase the brake vacuum level to 20 in. These pumps are made for vehicles using engine combinations that provide little or no manifold vacuum required for braking. They can be mounted in any position. The included vacuum reservoirs will allow you enough extra vacuum for stopping and to power any other accessories that require a vacuum source. They feature a built-in check valve and vacuum gauge, so you can monitor the vacuum level at any time. The reservoirs are manufactured from high-quality billet aluminum and have a built-in mounting flange for fast, simple installation.

Dorman electric vacuum pump relocation kits relocate the pump to a higher location in the engine bay. On many Jeep Wrangler models, the electric vacuum pump is installed on the frame rail behind the front bumper, where it can be easily exposed to the elements on and off the road. Wrangler owners who venture off the beaten path sometimes learn the hard way. These effective retrofit kits provide a simple installation to help protect the vacuum pump from damaging moisture and debris. The complete vacuum pump relocation kits include pre-mounted pump on a sturdy mounting bracket, extension harness, grommets, and a check valve with a direct-fit connector.

Rein OE-manufactured brake vacuum pumps are produced to the specifications of the auto maker's engineers. They come complete with a mounting gasket or seal, depending on the application. Vacuum pumps are used in vehicles with engines that do not produce sufficient vacuum to provide power to the braking system, EGR valves, intake manifold switches, as well as turbocharger actuators and others. A failed or improperly working brake vacuum pump can lead to a reduction in braking power, a reduction in part and/or full load performance, a triggering of check engine light or limp mode, or engine misfires. All Rein brake vacuum pumps are manufactured by an OE manufacturer to be the exact same units that originally came on the vehicle!
