Superchargers and turbochargers are an incredibly popular way to make gobs of power and maximize the efficiency of your vehicle—and Summit Racing Equipment has the best selection around! Let’s break down the main differences of each, so you can figure out what route to take on your own ride!
Superchargers are driven directly by your engine. They are attached to your crankshaft by a belt, so as engine speed increases, so does your supercharger speed. You can increase or decrease the speed of the supercharger by changing the size of the pulleys, allowing you to fine-tune your boost to the desired level. Because of their relationship to engine speed, superchargers commonly provide a power curve that increases with engine rpm, delivering boost with rapid response.
There are two main styles of superchargers: Roots and centrifugal. Roots-style superchargers use a pair of rotors within a housing to force air at higher than atmospheric pressure into your engines. The rotors can have a varying number of lobes and may be twisted, affecting how the air flows through the supercharger. Centrifugal style superchargers utilize a gearbox to spin a shaft, which is connected to compressor wheel, drawing in ambient air and compressing it on its way to the engine.
Turbochargers utilize the exhaust gases produced by your engine to spin a turbine wheel located inside the turbocharger housing, which is connected to a compressor wheel by a shaft. As the two wheels turn, ambient air is sucked into the turbocharger’s compressor inlet and pushed into the engine. That air charge is often passed through an intercooler to increase its density.
Choosing the right turbocharger kit for your vehicle can be daunting, with factors like tubing size, A/R ratio, and multiple other factors to consider. However, Summit Racing makes it easy by offering turbocharger kits custom-designed for a wide range of vehicles, so you can get all the benefits without major engineering work.

Magnuson M.O.A.B Mother of All Blowers superchargers blend the iconic style of traditional roots blowers first popularized by hot-rodders in the 1940s with advanced TVS3100 rotor technology. Unlike older blowers plagued by poor idle quality, aggressive underdrive ratios, and low boost to mask their inefficiencies, Magnuson M.O.A.B.s feature high-efficiency 3.1L rotors with a full 140-degree twist, delivering significantly greater horsepower, torque, and instant throttle response. Paired with Magnuson's vacuum-operated bypass valve, the Mother of All Blowers superchargers generate substantially more power with dramatically improved efficiency, reduced parasitic drag, and lower operating temperatures. Direct bolt-on compatibility with standard roots manifolds and accessories ensures easy upgrades for your street rod, LS restomod, or classic muscle project. Select cartridge assembly length needed and finish desired. Flip the switch, drop the pedal, and feel the blast--the M.O.A.B. has landed. Features and benefits: * Retain the iconic look of your vintage blower, powered by technology that reduces heat and frees up horsepower for your engine * Direct bolt-on installation for standard 6-71 and 8-71 blower manifolds--no adapters required * Fully compatible with standard roots blower accessories including cog belt drives, intercoolers, carburetors, EFI systems, fuel components, and intake hardware * Modern TVS3100 rotor design improves airflow efficiency, reduces intake temperatures, and provides smoother boost response compared to traditional roots rotors * Integrated vacuum-operated bypass valve reduces parasitic load, enhancing drivability and fuel efficiency at idle and part-throttle * Custom-engineered front gear cover featuring increased oil capacity for improved durability and cooler gear-case temperatures * Standardized inlet/outlet flanges simplify integration with existing aftermarket kits and common blower accessories * Multiple billet aluminum drive snout lengths available (3.90 in. to 7.90 in.) for easy belt alignment with virtually any 6-71/8-71 style drive configuration * Bolt-on pulley hubs utilize industry-standard 6-bolt cog pulleys for flexible drive ratio adjustments * Self-contained, maintenance-free design with no external oil lines or regular servicing required * Designed for versatile compatibility across vintage and modern engine platforms including Chevy, Ford, Mopar, LS-series engines, and more * Available polished or with black finish
