Superchargers are driven directly by your engine. They are attached to your crankshaft by a belt, so as engine speed increases, so does your supercharger speed. You can increase or decrease the speed of the supercharger by changing the size of the pulleys, allowing you to fine-tune your boost to the desired level. Because of their relationship to engine speed, superchargers commonly provide a power curve that increases with engine rpm, delivering boost with rapid response.
There are two main styles of superchargers: Roots and centrifugal. Roots-style superchargers use a pair of rotors within a housing to force air at higher than atmospheric pressure into your engines. The rotors can have a varying number of lobes and may be twisted, affecting how the air flows through the supercharger. Centrifugal style superchargers utilize a gearbox to spin a shaft, which is connected to compressor wheel, drawing in ambient air and compressing it on its way to the engine.
Turbochargers utilize the exhaust gases produced by your engine to spin a turbine wheel located inside the turbocharger housing, which is connected to a compressor wheel by a shaft. As the two wheels turn, ambient air is sucked into the turbocharger’s compressor inlet and pushed into the engine. That air charge is often passed through an intercooler to increase its density.
Choosing the right turbocharger kit for your vehicle can be daunting, with factors like tubing size, A/R ratio, and multiple other factors to consider. APR DTR6054 turbocharger systems are direct replacements for the EA888 Gen 3 engine. These upgrades include matching software for various vehicles and mods, providing up to 491 hp and 425 lbs.-ft. of torque, depending on vehicle platform and fueling, all while keeping emissions components unmodified. The software supports premium pump fuel grades, race fuel grades, and even ethanol on the Golf R, S3, and TT S platform with fueling upgrades. For dedicated race cars the turbocharger is designed with plenty of headroom to go even further on your own! Designed and developed from the ground up by APR, DTR6054 turbochargers do not require a core and there's no additional downtime. They are built using an aluminum anti-surge compressor cover with appropriate A/R matched to a larger aircraft-grade, 6061 billet aluminum 60mm compressor wheel, a turbine housing cast with high-temperature 310 stainless steel to take the heat and abuse seen on a road course, and a nickel-based superalloy K418 high-flow 54mm turbine wheel. A German dual ceramic ball bearing center section provides smooth and reliable operation with a better transient response, eliminating the factory failure-prone journal bearing design. Each kit includes the complete turbocharger with compressor inlet pipe, compressor outlet hose, T-bolt clamps, gaskets, O-rings, exhaust ring, exhaust V-band, exhaust manifold gasket, studs, bolts, and washers, oil and coolant line O-rings, and APR's ECU upgrades for select vehicles. The upgrade uses your factory electronic wastegate and diverter valve, and connects to your factory exhaust, intake, turbo outlet pipe, and oil and coolant lines. Tested at various road courses, APR's DTR6054 turbocharger systems do not spike torque hard or run on the edge of what the factory rods and pistons have been known to handle, making them as safe on the stock engine as possible for these power levels. Adding a blow-off valve to your Can-Am Maverick or Polaris RZR turbo system is a great way to improve throttle response and hear that awesome blow-off valve turbo sound. The purpose of a BOV is not just to sound cool, but it is designed to release the pressure that is built up in the charge side of the system. With nowhere to go, the pressure can cause turbulence to the impeller slowing the spool of the turbo down and causing premature wear. By installing a blow-off valve, you can improve boost response, prolong the life of the turbo, and of course, get that cool swoosh sound! The blow-off valves can be used in conjunction with the stock turbo inlet pipe or any aftermarket turbo hose pipe that has a 1 in. BOV flange. Since the factory valve is a diverter valve and this new valve is designed to be 100 percent vent to atmosphere, a high-temp push-on plug cover is included for the eliminated return hose. The valves are machined from 6061 billet aluminum then anodized in a stealth black finish, and the top is laser engraved with the Agency Power cursive logo and directions for adjusting. When the top of the valve rotates, this allows you to adjust the spring tension for your application. You can set the valve to easily vent off pressure or be stiffer to only vent at maximum psi.
