Superchargers and turbochargers are an incredibly popular way to make gobs of power and maximize the efficiency of your vehicle—and Summit Racing Equipment has the best selection around! Let’s break down the main differences of each, so you can figure out what route to take on your own ride!
Superchargers are driven directly by your engine. They are attached to your crankshaft by a belt, so as engine speed increases, so does your supercharger speed. You can increase or decrease the speed of the supercharger by changing the size of the pulleys, allowing you to fine-tune your boost to the desired level. Because of their relationship to engine speed, superchargers commonly provide a power curve that increases with engine rpm, delivering boost with rapid response.
There are two main styles of superchargers: Roots and centrifugal. Roots-style superchargers use a pair of rotors within a housing to force air at higher than atmospheric pressure into your engines. The rotors can have a varying number of lobes and may be twisted, affecting how the air flows through the supercharger. Centrifugal style superchargers utilize a gearbox to spin a shaft, which is connected to compressor wheel, drawing in ambient air and compressing it on its way to the engine.
Turbochargers utilize the exhaust gases produced by your engine to spin a turbine wheel located inside the turbocharger housing, which is connected to a compressor wheel by a shaft. As the two wheels turn, ambient air is sucked into the turbocharger’s compressor inlet and pushed into the engine. That air charge is often passed through an intercooler to increase its density.
Choosing the right turbocharger kit for your vehicle can be daunting, with factors like tubing size, A/R ratio, and multiple other factors to consider. However, Summit Racing makes it easy by offering turbocharger kits custom-designed for a wide range of vehicles, so you can get all the benefits without major engineering work.

Turbosmart Kompact dual port blow-off valves offer high performance, OEM fitment, versatility, and affordability—in other words, everything you need! These BOVs feature dual ports that vent into both the atmosphere and the air intake, reducing turbo lag and eliminating cavitation. Turbosmart Kompact dual port blow-off valves are designed to be bolt-on replacements for plastic factory Bosch or Denso units. They use sequential timing to allow for quieter operation during normal driving, while still providing the benefits of a vent-to-atmosphere type BOV under race conditions. They are easily converted into full atmospheric or full bypass units by using the included port blanking plug.

The Hybrid valve is back! Go Fast Bits Hybrid dual outlet valves are three valves in one; full recirculation, full atmosphere, or 50/50 venting. In 1999, GFB's first Hybrid valve pioneered the dual port design, which was so successful, and the technology has since been adopted by most other brands. By "staging" the two venting outlets at low valve lifts most of the air is recirculated. As the car is driven harder, the valve opens further and more of the atmosphere venting port is exposed for a louder sound--a benefit that makes it possible to use these valves on cars with sensitive airflow meters that often suffer issues such as backfiring and/or stalling, whilst still achieving the signature blow-off sound. Go Fast Bits Hybrid dual outlet valves are direct-fit, bolt-ons with a range that covers a huge list of popular vehicles. Purchase the Hybrid model for your vehicle.

Go Fast Bits Respons TMS Universal blow-off valves with TMS Advantage are patented adjustable venting bias system diverter valves. GFB's Respons BOVs allow you to precisely control how much air expels from each of the two outlets, which is key for two reasons. First, you can adjust how loud the blow-off sound is--recirculate all of the air for silent factory operation, vent it all to atmosphere for maximum noise, or set it anywhere in between to suit your preference. Second, you get a blow-off sound without causing stalling, backfiring, or any other BOV-related issues, even on a car with a sensitive airflow meter (MAF). And this is accomplished by simply twisting the adjusting ring. GFB's Respons TMS Universal blow-off valves are not just noisemakers. They also offer better throttle response, faster boost recovery on gearshift, and unlimited boost-holding. Using GFB's TMS (Turbo Management System) principle, tests show that Respons valves can return the engine to peak boost up to 30 percent faster than a factory diverter valve when shifting gears.
