Superchargers and turbochargers are an incredibly popular way to make gobs of power and maximize the efficiency of your vehicle—and Summit Racing Equipment has the best selection around! Let’s break down the main differences of each, so you can figure out what route to take on your own ride!
Superchargers are driven directly by your engine. They are attached to your crankshaft by a belt, so as engine speed increases, so does your supercharger speed. You can increase or decrease the speed of the supercharger by changing the size of the pulleys, allowing you to fine-tune your boost to the desired level. Because of their relationship to engine speed, superchargers commonly provide a power curve that increases with engine rpm, delivering boost with rapid response.
There are two main styles of superchargers: Roots and centrifugal. Roots-style superchargers use a pair of rotors within a housing to force air at higher than atmospheric pressure into your engines. The rotors can have a varying number of lobes and may be twisted, affecting how the air flows through the supercharger. Centrifugal style superchargers utilize a gearbox to spin a shaft, which is connected to compressor wheel, drawing in ambient air and compressing it on its way to the engine.
Turbochargers utilize the exhaust gases produced by your engine to spin a turbine wheel located inside the turbocharger housing, which is connected to a compressor wheel by a shaft. As the two wheels turn, ambient air is sucked into the turbocharger’s compressor inlet and pushed into the engine. That air charge is often passed through an intercooler to increase its density.
Choosing the right turbocharger kit for your vehicle can be daunting, with factors like tubing size, A/R ratio, and multiple other factors to consider. However, Summit Racing makes it easy by offering turbocharger kits custom-designed for a wide range of vehicles, so you can get all the benefits without major engineering work.

Wagner Tuning performance intercoolers easily replace OEM coolers and provide performance gains, less pressure drop, and lower intake temperatures. Optimized by CAD, most feature bar and plate construction for generally greater heat rejection than many tube and fin designs (models with turbulators offer even greater heat rejection). They are also less likely to be damaged by rocks and debris. Engineered for efficiency and designed to remove bottlenecks, their cast aluminum end tanks were improved further with flow analyses and simulations. Treated with a protective anti-corrosion coating with perfect thermal heat-dissipating characteristics, Wagner Tuning performance intercoolers are a great choice.

Bigger is better. Dinan high performance heat exchangers, with their larger stature, elicit increased efficiency, plus twice the effectiveness of your stock setup. Impressive power gains and a wider power band, along with astounding cooling characteristics, nearly guarantee that "heat soak" is a thing of the past. Benefits of the Dinan high performance heat exchangers: * Consistent +10 hp/+20 lbs.-ft. of torque on the stock engine tune. Additional gains realized when used in conjunction with the Stage 3 DinanTronics performance tuner. * 60 percent more core volume and 19 percent more face area than stock * 40mm thick Dinan cooler vs. 24mm thick stock cooler * An average of 9 degrees water temperature reduction to the intercooler across the rpm range. Colder water improves intercooler efficiency and allows the intake air to be cooled on average by an additional 6 degrees across the rpm range compared to stock. * Significant reduction in tendency to heat soak * Rubber-mounted for vibration isolation * Track-tested to ensure consistent performance under extreme conditions

APR carbon fiber intercooler ducts for the Porsche 992 3.0T dramatically lower intake air temperature (IAT) by increasing airflow through the ambient air path of the intercooler cores. In doing so, the engine makes more power and sustains power levels for longer—as IAT is kept away from the knock threshold of the engine and IAT-based power reduction safety routines of the factory ECU. Multiple back-to-back wide-open-throttle acceleration tests proved APR intercooler ducts reduced IAT as much as 9.6 degrees C (17.3 degrees F) or 15 percent better than stock! The APR intercooler ducts are made from carbon fiber, allowing the cooling ducts to be formed to the exact shape necessary to fit into the tight engine bay within the 992's rear-end. The vents allow for maximum flow through the system, while continuing to connect the system to the rest of the factory ducting. Everything simply slides into place with no extra hardware required. A gorgeous matte finish with a gloss APR logo adorns the system, giving it a motorsport-inspired feel, which is unfortunately tucked out of view with the rear bumper installed. Testing: The 911 must be tested on the street, rather than a dyno, to capture real world cooling data. This is especially true because of the rear engine design. In real world driving, air is forced through the cooling ducts differently than it is on a stationary dyno, even with excellent cooling fans. During development, APR engineers fully instrumented the engine to find the limitations of the factory hardware. It was quickly determined the factory intercoolers struggled with airflow through the ambient cooling paths. By redesigning the cooling ducts, more high-pressure ambient air could be forced through the system to maximize effectiveness of the coolers. To illustrate their importance, wide open throttle acceleration tests were conducted for roughly 11 seconds, both with stock cooling ducts and APR cooling ducts. IAT was measured post-intercooler with high-quality thermocouples. Ten back-to-back tests were conducted with each setup, and the results were averaged together. With the stock ducts in place, IAT rose to 66.2 degrees C (151.2 degrees F). This is above the factory knock threshold of 60 degrees C (140 degrees F) and is approaching the ECU power reduction limiter at 70 degrees C (158 degrees F). Once this IAT threshold is crossed, the ECU will begin aggressively reducing engine power to protect the engine. By simply swapping to the APR intercooler ducts, IAT dropped 15 percent, or 9.6 degrees C (17.3 degrees F), leveling off at 56.6 degrees C (133.9 degrees F). This is below the knock threshold and safely away from the power reduction threshold! APR Intercooler ducts are a simple and cost effective upgraded to the 992 3.0T and should be considered by any customer, at any stage of performance, looking to maximize the performance of their 911! Product features: * Improved intake air temperature (IAT) by 15 percent over stock * Organic matte carbon fiber design with gloss APR logo * Lightweight material and design * No extra hardware required * Plug-and-play upgrade * Retains factory intercooler post-housing ducting * Excellent performance per dollar upgrade for the Porsche 911 * Emissions compliant
