An air intake snorkel kit is an off-road accessory used to raise the engine air intake opening above the vehicle's roofline to prevent water from entering the engine while still allowing air to flow into the engine. Snorkels are usually made of molded plastic and designed to be attached to a stock or aftermarket air filter box. From there, the snorkel extends through the hood or fender and up the windshield frame or A-pillar, where it is secured. Depending on the kit, body panel modification may be necessary to give the snorkel tube a place to pass through.
