MSD Three-Stage Retard Controls

MSD three-stage retard controls allow you to retard your ignition timing in three different stages. You can activate one retard for a nitrous stage, and another at top-end in high gear for more mph, and still have another module left over for dual-stage nitrous systems. When activated together, the retard amounts are cumulative, so you get the total of the three. For example, if you pull 2 degrees, then 4 degrees on the second stage, and another 2 degrees at top-end, the total retard is 8 degrees (2+4+2=8). In addition to the individual retard stages, the Three Stage retard controls have an optional start retard function that retards the timing 10 or 25 degrees while cranking the engine. This makes starting high-compression engines with locked-out timing, such as crank trigger systems, much easier. These units easily connect to your MSD Ignition and can be triggered from points, electronic ignitions, crank triggers, or magnetic pickup distributors. They're supplied with a 2, 3, and 4 degree module, and must be used with an MSD 6, SCI, 7, 8, or 10 Series ignition.

MSD Digital Multi-Retard Controls

MSD digital multi-retard timing controls provide four different stages of retard, along with an adjustable start retard feature--with no modules! These units use a high-speed RISC micro-controller to direct the timing functions. This controller can make extremely quick compensations to the timing, while maintaining accuracy to within 1 degree. These circuits are thoroughly de-bounced and isolated for protection against Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI). There is also an innovative magnetic pickup compensation circuit built-in to allow for rock-steady timing with a variety of different mag pickups. There are four separate retard stages that can be activated independently or together for a total sum of retards. Each stage is adjustable from 0-9 degrees, and a maximum of 20 degrees of retard can be pulled out. On top of these great features, there is also an optional start retard circuit that can be programmed to retard the timing 5, 10, 15, or 20 degrees during cranking. Digital multi-retard timing controls can be used on 4, 6, or 8-cylinder engines, and must be used with an MSD ignition control.

MSD Boost Timing Master Ignitions

If you run a blower, turbo, or even a naturally aspirated engine, MSD's Boost Timing Masters allow you to run at the edge of detonation for maximum power output. They can prevent detonation by automatically retarding the timing as your manifold pressure increases. The secret lies in a boost pressure sensor that's inside MSD's solid-state control box. The sensor reads boost pressure through a 1/8 in. vacuum hose attached to a boost pressure source. The result gives you peak power without harmful detonation. A dash-mounted control knob allows you to dial in the retard from 1 to 3 degrees per pound of boost pressure, up to a maximum retard of 15 degrees. Vacuum tubing is not included. These units must be used with an MSD 6, 7 or 8 series ignition.

MSD 6-MOD Ford Modular Engine Controller

The 6-Mod Ignition Controller was originally developed for the 4.6 and 5.4-liter modular motors that were fed through a carburetor rather than an electronic fuel injection system. However, with the useful options that the 6-Mod provides, such as two rev limits, a step retard and easy control over the timing, the EFI people wanted a way to take advantage of the adjustment. The harness kit provides a splice-free installation of the MSD 6-Mod Controller to factory equipped EFI vehicles making installation a snap. Finally, all-out performance distributors to replace the OEM GM LT1 Optisparks--MSD's Pro-Billet LT1 distributors. They feature a precision-machined billet aluminum housing that fits in place of the factory piece, a new pickup assembly, a trick timing adjustment mechanism, and a new MSD distributor cap and rotor. The pickup is an advanced optical encoder that has proven to be very reliable and stable through extreme rpm and conditions. MSD Programmable Digital-7 CD Plus ignitions have an output power and Individual Cylinder Management timing system that are hard to beat. At the heart of these ignitions is a 15 MHz micro-controller that analyzes and manages every trigger signal. Their capacitive discharge circuits and state-of-the-art IGBT coil drivers work together to deliver a potent spark that can easily handle high cylinder pressures. Below 3,300 rpm, a series of sparks burn in the cylinder over 20 degrees of crankshaft rotation, producing a smooth idle with great throttle response.
