La Crosse Technology Waterfall Rain Gauges are calibrated tubes or boxes, open to admit rain, and marked to indicate the amount of liquid rainfall. A manual rain gauge must be emptied after each rainfall in order to guarantee correct measurement. Rainfall amount is defined as the depth of water that reaches the ground, typically in inches or millimeters (25.4 mm equals one inch), for each rainfall event. An inch of rain is water that would be one inch deep if not absorbed or evaporated. Times of drought, and the dangers of flash floods when we receive too much rain, are a concern for us all. For some folks; such as gardeners, farmers, and weather professionals, rain data is essential information. For the rest of us, collecting and tracking rainfall information with a rain gauge may be fun and fascinating! Weather Geeks take note: La Crosse Technology Waterfall Rain Gauges are definitely an easy way to track daily rains.
