Up to 70 grams lighter than traditional "full round" pistons (including wrist pins and rings), these hollow dome gas-ported pistons are also stronger and more durable due to modern FEA-designed forging. They feature accumulator grooves, contact reduction grooves, double pin oilers, lateral gas ports, and deeper valve pockets to accommodate higher lift cams and milled cylinder heads. They ensure that engine gasses can only escape via the exhaust ports, while preventing coolant and oil from leaking into the cylinders and combustion chambers.
