Ford Performance Parts FR9 NASCAR Cylinder Heads—Aimed at serious circle track competitors, these FR9 NASCAR cylinder heads are built with lightweight castings made from A356-T6 aluminum. Manufactured to exceed the most demanding performance requirements, each cylinder head features crossflow cooling, internal oil passages for valvetrain lubrication, and splayed and canted intake valves. It is important to remember that your cylinder heads are one part of a complete engine package rather than a standalone upgrade. When choosing cylinder heads, be sure to match them to your cam profile, desired compression ratio, engine displacement, gear size, and other performance modifications. There is no one-size-fits-all solution.
You also need to consider your intended use. Will you spend most of your time driving this vehicle on the street? On the strip? A bit of both? Your needs will change depending on the answer:
Street Performance—Consider keeping your intake ports on the smaller side to maintain high velocity in the ports. High-end power might suffer, but you will achieve good throttle response in its place. Look for heads that excel in the 1,500 – 5,500 rpm range where street vehicles usually operate.
Competition—At the opposite end of the spectrum, racing cylinder heads typically have beefier valve springs and are designed to perform well at rpm levels of 10,000 and above. The big ports, big valves, and smaller combustion chambers found in these heads are advantageous when used in competition engines, which operate at higher powerbands. Just don’t expect the same throttle response you’d get from street heads.
