Machined from brass or steel, the kits include a variety of sizes to seal whatever ports need to be closed off. Expansion plugs (or freeze plugs) serve two primary purposes: to block coolant leaks from internal passages, and to protect the engine block from cracking if the coolant inside freezes and expands.
