What makes an Edelbrock carburetor the best choice for your build? They’re durable, flexible and easy to tune. If you’re looking for a carb that will run right out of the box, look no further. Edelbrock carburetors also are easily calibrated to get every last bit of performance available from your engine.

A secondary air valve combines the tunability and reliability of mechanical secondary butterflies, with the self tuning characteristics of vacuum secondaries. You might give up a little top end power if you don’t get your secondaries tuned perfectly, but you won’t have a dangerously rich or lean condition.
You don’t need to drain the carburetor or remove it from the engine to replace jets, metering rods, or the needle and seat.
Most tuning can be done with a screwdriver and a vacuum gauge. Float levels are set at the factory, so they usually don’t need an adjustment.

What size Edelbrock carb do you need for your engine?

There are a lot of variables to consider. You can get an estimate with our cfm calculator or by using this formula:

Carburetor cfm = (c.i.d. x max rpm x VE) ÷ 3456

Volumetric efficiency (VE) requires special equipment to measure precisely. For carburetor sizing the following guidelines can be used:

A good running stock engine typically has a VE of around 0.85.
A mildly modified engine with a performance cam, intake, and headers will be closer to 1.0 at redline.
A race engine with forced induction or very high compression, aggressive cam/intake combos, headers, and ported heads, can have a volumetric efficiency up to 1.15.

For example, let’s say you have a stock 302 or 305 small block engine with a 5500 rpm redline. It needs a little over 400 cfm. An Edelbrock 500 cfm carburetor will be a good match. If you make some mods that move your max rpms to 6000, the increased volumetric efficiency should be matched with an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb. A race engine with the same displacement, and a 7,500 rpm redline needs an Edelbrock 750 cfm carburetor to keep up.

The four Edelbrock carburetor lines available:

Performer, AVS2, Thunder AVS, and Marine series. Each line is tailored to a specific use.

Edelbrock Performer carburetor: This carburetor is built for reliable street use. Available with or without support for an EGR system, it has all the standard features that make Edelbrock carburetors easy to tune.
Edelbrock AVS2 carburetor: These carbs deliver better fuel atomization thanks to annular flow primary boosters. The Qwik-Tune Secondary Air Valve gives you even more flexibility to dial in your secondary circuit.
Edelbrock Thunder AVS Series: This series is built to deliver a steady fuel feed for off-road use. A spring loaded needle and seat together with a spring loaded anti-siphon ball prevent fuel drip when driving over rough terrain. They also have the Qwik-Tune Secondary Air Valve.
Edelbrock Marine carb: These carburetors are built to withstand demanding marine engines. The aluminum body has a hard-wearing chrome finish, and the shafts and pump arm are coated with PTFE to resist corrosion. They also comply with U.S. Coast Guard safety standards.
