COMP Cams Open Wheel Modified Traction Control Camshafts
The industry-leading camshaft designers at COMP Cams set out to engineer a camshaft specifically for the requirements of open wheel modified racers. They had to take on the daunting task of building maximum horsepower, while still taking into consideration the tire restrictions, chassis technology, engine combinations, and common rule packages found in open wheel modified racing sanctioning bodies, such as IMCA. The Open Wheel Modified Traction Control Camshaft Series is comprised of 10 solid flat tappet and mechanical roller grinds for small block Chevys. These powerful camshafts are separated into four categories, each of which is optimized for open wheel modified racing. A combination of proven camshaft design technologies and the most innovative and aggressive lobe profiles in the industry has produced camshafts that deliver an extremely wide powerband, pulling hard off the corner and all the way down the straightaway. A further benefit of the broad horsepower curve of these cams is that they minimize tire spin, creating legal traction control. These innovative grinds have been extensively track-tested, and they have been proven to run faster than any camshaft that has ever been tested for this type of racing. Everything from casting techniques to valve spring clearance was scrutinized to ensure that Ultra Pro Magnum rocker arms not only lived up to the lofty standards of their predecessor, but also took stud mount rocker performance, stability, and value to a whole new level. The most noticeable advancement centers around their nearly unbreakable investment cast 8650 chromoly body. The arched, web-like design delivers a nearly 29 percent increase in strength and rigidity, while reducing the moment of inertia and optimizing the dynamic balance. The resulting rockers maximize lift and valvetrain control at high rpm. The increased retainer and valve spring clearances of the new design enable the use of large-diameter valve springs, retainers, and locks, without clearance or fitment issues. The new black oxide exterior finish offers a distinctive appearance, along with long-term corrosion resistance. The COMP Cams Ultra Pro Magnum rocker arms feature an oversized trunnion and precision-sorted needle bearings designed for use with high-load valve springs. These unique rockers also feature hardened roller tips for reduced friction and elimination of the valve stem "side loading" that causes premature valve guide wear.
