The engine oil is pressure fed to the phasers through passageways in the cylinder heads and cams. The engine computer's control solenoids that adjust this oil flow into and out of the phasers' control chambers, give the ability to retard the cams. While this technology provides fuel efficiency and the ability to always be in the best position for maximum power, regardless of engine rpm, it does present some limitations when it comes to performance cams. With such a wide range of valve timing movement, there is very little piston to valve clearance, which limits you to small cam profiles with little overlap.

They feature an aggressive design that provide a thumping exhaust note and they provide a great performance upgrade to any 103 cu. in. and larger twin cam engine. The cams feature a sophisticated "Endurance Ramp" lobe design that makes great power but is easy on the tappets and valve train for long life. They feature a wide power band and pull great up to 5,400 to 6,400 rpm dependent upon the camshafts selected, and engine combination. The cams are made from 8620 billet steel and have been shown to make greater gains in power, acceleration, and throttle response when tested with larger throttle bodies. They are CNC-machined and double-disc ground to precision tolerances—and also feature a CNC-machined O-ring for positive oil seal. The cam checking tools slide down into the lifter bore and ride on top of the camshaft in order to help measure lobe lift and base circle runout. The tools are double-ended and feature an O-ring on each end to securely hold them in the lifter bore and come complete with two followers—one for flat tappet or hydraulic cams and one for roller cams. With COMP Cams camshaft checking tools, you can accurately measure lobe lift for your GM, Ford, Chrysler, or Top Fuel. These quality tools are much easier to use and more precise than using a magnetic indicator base when degreeing a cam and help ensure the camshaft is installed correctly and within specifications, which is vital for long-term reliability.
