Performance Tool Turbocharger System Leakage Testers

Performance Tool turbocharger system leakage testers are diagnostic tools used to find air leaks in a vehicle's turbocharger and intercooler systems. By pressurizing the system with low-pressure shop air, they help mechanics quickly pinpoint hidden leaks that cause engine lag, poor fuel efficiency, and high exhaust temperatures.

How they work:

* These testers isolate the turbo system (or cooling system hoses) by plugging both the air intake inlet and the output side of the turbo.
-- Seal the system: You attach the provided stepped adapters to the intake and exhaust hoses. One adapter is solid to block off the pipe, while the other features an air connector and a pressure gauge.
-- Pressurize: You connect your shop air compressor to the adapter. An integrated pressure regulator prevents over-pressurization.
-- Monitor and locate: You pressurize the system (usually between 10 to 20 psi) and watch the gauge. If the pressure drops, you can listen for hissing or spray the piping and couplers with soapy water to reveal bubbling air leaks.

Key features:

* Stepped adapters: Typically include multiple pairs of stepped rubber or metal plugs (often ranging from 1 3/8 in. to 3.5 in.) to ensure a snug fit on various car and light truck models
* Regulator and gauge: Includes an accurate pressure gauge (0-86 psi) and a built-in regulator to keep the tested air at safe, low pressures
* Versatility: Though primarily used for boost leak testing, these tools can also be used to check for leaks in cooling system pipes
