In order for a cowl induction system to work, you need a vent which can be opened and closed, and air. Air is all around us, so that's easy, and Goodmark cowl induction flappers work for the vent. These flappers remain closed at lower speeds, and then, when the engine starts working harder at higher rpm, they can be opened.
