Overview
Engine Works Crankshaft Reluctor Wheels
Engine Works crankshaft reluctor wheels are toothed metal rings mounted to an engine's crankshaft to track rotational speed and piston position for the engine computer. They're available for a variety of applications, including Chevy small blocks from 1997 and up.
How reluctor wheels work:
* Toothed design: The wheel features specific gaps or teeth along its outer edge
* Sensor interaction: As the crankshaft spins, the teeth pass a stationary crankshaft position sensor
* Signal generation: This movement alters a magnetic field to send precise electronic pulses to the ECU (Engine Control Unit)
* Timing control: The computer uses these signals to calculate precise fuel injection and ignition timing
* Common types (LS applications):
-- 24-tooth (24x): Typically used on older Gen III engines (1997-2006) with black crank sensors.
-- 58-tooth (58x): Used on newer Gen IV engines (2006+) with gray crank sensors, offering higher resolution data at high RPMs
