Crown Automotive knock sensors are designed to detect harmful engine vibrations. The signal from these devices is sent to the PCM/ECM, and that is used to control the engine's timing. The symptoms of a bad sensor usually show up at highway speeds or under a load. Your vehicle will have a loss in fuel mileage and acceleration, especially at highway speeds--performance decreases and there is a risk of serious engine damage.
