Answer This Question

Q:

What would be the ideal Compression Ratio to use this camshaft with cast iron heads and which with aluminum cylinder heads
At the moment I am using IROC L98 cylinder heads 14101083 of 64 cc, Flat top pistons h345dcp30 and 0.051 HEAD GASKET
600 cfm carb holley

Asked by EDWIN on December 07, 2017

A:

In order to run pump gas I try and stay around 9 to 9.5 with cast heads, you can get by with a little more with aluminum heads, look at your quench though, ideally you want between 0.35 and 0.45. this is a great cam, I have used 5 or 6 of them, just make sure you do the break in according to directions supplied

Answer This Question

Q:

Would the valve springs edelbrick #5825 that came with the sbc Edelbrock performer RPM heads #60899 that have a spring rate of seat pressure 128lb and open pressure @.580 of 338lbs

Asked by DEL on June 13, 2018

A:

They will work fine if the cam is broke in correctly... 1.3 or 1.4 rockers with Joe Gibbes BR break in oil...2000 rpm for at least 20 minutes right after start up. I always install them at 1.800 for break in

So far so good. Gone through a couple cams this year. Time will tell how well it holds up. Good power up to 5,000 rpm. Have not taken it above that yet. Still breaking it in.

First, I did not install this cam, I bought it as a replacement option and ended up saving this it another build. That said, I did have to get two to get one that wasn't damaged. This is a great cam and any online search will confirm it, and generally Ive seen excellent quality from Comp Cams. In this case however, the first cam I received had defects on every lobe - dime-sized "flat spots" on the lobes - all different parts of each lobe, but they all lined up when looking down the length - almost as though the Cam had been sat on something - though I'm not sure what would cause this issue. I called Summit and as always, they were quick to replace it. The 2nd one was fine. So great cam, but double check before install (always good advice really). ...read more
