Overview

Engine Power Turbocharged Ford 300 CID Inline Six Short Block Parts Combos

According to Pat Topolinski and Frankie Forman of PowerNation TV's Engine Power, the Ford 300 cu. in. inline six is practically indestructible. To prove the point, they obtained an industrial-spec 300 that spent its life powering a truck-mounted sprayer, threw on some off-the-shelf performance goodies, then bolted on a turbo and boosted the engine to the moon. The inline six rewarded their efforts with 522 hp and 597 lbs.-ft. of torque with 13.2 psi of boost. That's one tough piece of cast iron.

Ford built its 300 six industrial engines with forged crankshafts and good connecting rods, which Engine Power cleaned up and reused. They had the block bored .050 in. over, which might seem weird until you realize it's the same bore size (4.050 in.) as a Ford 390 FE big block. Pat and Frankie used a set of D.S.S. forged flat top pistons with a set of Total Seal TS1 gapless rings. The main, rod, and cam bearings were replaced with new Clevite and Sealed Power bearings.

The camshaft is a COMP Cams custom hydraulic flat tappet stick rated at 230/236 degrees duration at .050 in. of valve lift and .523 in. of lift. Our Engine Power turbocharged Ford 300 CID inline six short block parts combo also includes a set of COMP Cams steel timing gears which are a nice upgrade from the fiber/phenolic gears used on the standard truck engines.

The stock oil pump was replaced with a Melling high-volume/standard pressure pump and a new pickup. The 300 also got a new water pump (our combo has a GMB OE replacement pump), a PowerBond harmonic balancer, and Pioneer flywheel ring gear. A Fel-Pro gasket set seals things up.
