Silver Sport Transmissions M22 Four-Speed Transmissions: The Rock Crusher is Back

For some folks, there’s nothing like the feel of rowing through the gears of a vintage four-speed manual transmission. For GM enthusiasts, the Muncie M22 is arguably the biggest, baddest, most gnarliest four-speed manual the General ever made.

Designed to handle the torque of the hi-po big block engines of the late 1960s and early 1970s, the M22 had strong, straight-cut steel gears that allowed the transmission to handle the heat and shock of things like aggressive launches and clutch dumps during burnouts. Those gears also created a loud gear-whine noise under acceleration, earning the transmission the nickname “Rock Crusher.”

Original M22s are hard to find, pricey when you do, and often need a rebuild that will cost you even more. Fortunately, the driveline experts at Silver Sport Transmissions make brand new M22-style four-speeds that won’t break the bank. The SST M22 transmissions have the legendary strength and durability of the original Rock Crusher, but feature modern upgrades like precision-machined gears to provide smooth, consistent shifting.

Other features include:
• 400 lbs.-ft. torque capacity
• Factory close-ratio gearing (2.20 first, 1.64 second, 1.28 third, 1.00 fourth)
• Rigid case engineered to withstand high torque loads and aggressive use
• Optimized gear tooth profiles minimize friction and backlash and retain the classic M22 character
• Heavy-duty internal components for consistent gate selection and extended service life

Silver Sport Transmissions M22 Four-Speed Transmissions are available with a 10-spline input shaft with your choice of a driver or passenger side speedometer gear location, or with a 26-spline input shaft with a passenger side speedo gear location.
