Who says a lifted truck can't be as clean-looking as a street rod? Not us-and certainly not Rod Vore, the owner of this 1955 Chevy Stepside. With a desirable body style and extra-clean build quality, this is one truck that would just as at home at a cruise night as it is at an all-truck show.

Obviously, the stock frame was not gonna handle the lift Rod was planning. So, buddy Jerry Prosser fabricated a custom square tube frame, and created a 12 inch lift using Superlift leaf springs, dual Superlift shocks, and Superlift steering stabilizers. The Chevy has twin Dana 60 axles with 4.11 gears, disc brakes at each corner, and 15 x 14 Weld Scorpion wheels on 46 inch tall TrXus tires.

Dig the crazy tilt bed. Rod commissioned the crew at Generations to do the body mods and paint. In addition to the power tilt bed, the Chevy has a custom steel roll pan and tailgate with concealed hardware. The Canary Yellow paint is a custom mix courtesy of Billy at Whiteland Auto.

The '55 has another trick up it's, er, bed-a massive motorized panel stuffed with a gaggle of subwoofers in custom fiberglass enclosures. Brian Stanifer gets the credit for the panel 'o sound.

It's kind of a shame the Chevy is so damn tall, because nobody gets to see the very nice big block under the hood. Rod loaded up the 454 with a steel crank and rods, Keith Black pistons, and a Crane RV-grind cam. Rod port-matched the stock iron heads and blended the bowls too. On the outside is a polished Edelbrock Performer intake, a 770 cfm Holley Avenger carb, and lots of shiny billet. The Rat is attached to a Turbo 400 trans and an NP205 transfer case.

Rod pirated a gas tank from a Ford F-350 to hold fuel for the Stepside. Check out the custom-bent fuel line and the stepped (2 1/2 to 3 inch) dual exhaust, not to mention how clean everything is.

More audio goodies live behind the Chevy's bench seat. Superior Interiors gets credit for the interior, including recovering the seat in imitation black leather, covering the floor with black carpet, and redoing the dash.
