Installing a truck snorkel like one used on a Tacoma snorkel or an ATV snorkel kit will enable the vehicle to cross deep water, reducing the risk of hydro-lock from water, which is not compressible and will cause major engine failure. Snorkels are usually made of molded plastic and designed to be attached to a stock or aftermarket air filter box. From there, the snorkel extends through the hood or fender and up the windshield frame or A-pillar, where it is secured. Depending on the kit, body panel modification may be necessary to give the snorkel tube a place to pass through.

Borne Off-Road snorkel air intakes move the fresh air inlet over 20 in. above the stock location, allowing the engine to pull in cleaner air. The precision rotational molded tube is made from durable, UV-resistant cross-linked polyethylene that can withstand the heat of the sun and any debris the trail can throw at it.
