Palmgren lathe follow rests fasten to lathe carriages and move with the cutting tool. They have a cast iron frame and two adjustable jaws and are used with long slender shafts that tend to whip and spring while they are being machined. Adjusted in the same manner as steady rest jaws, the upper jaw prevents the work from climbing the cutting tool; the lower jaw stops the work from springing away from the cutting tool. Palmgren lathe follow rest jaws are available for select Palmgren lathes, but can also be adapted to other lathes.
