Borla S-Type axle-back exhaust systems replace the factory rear muffler(s) and exhaust pipe(s) and are installed behind a vehicle's rear axle. Following the same exhaust path and secured using the original hangers and rubber isolators, Borla axle-back (or rear section) performance exhausts are less restrictive than factory exhaust systems and improve the sound level both inside and outside the cabin. S-Type axle-back exhaust systems use engine-specific (not universal) mufflers that are designed, tested, and optimized specifically for a particular year, make, and model. Improvements in sound and performance are accomplished by using superior muffler designs, mandrel-bent tubing, and the application of proper engine-matched tubing diameters. Welded tips are standard on most systems. Many vehicles have a factory service-point in the exhaust system (flange or slip-fit) located in the exhaust tubing behind the rear axle; so most Borla S-Type axle-back installations are completed in less than an hour with no cutting of the factory system. Vehicles that don't have a factory service-point require cutting, so Borla includes easy-to-follow instructions and hardware to complete the installation. Borla pioneered the use of aircraft-grade 304 stainless steel tubing, a material with a higher content of carbon and nickel that won't rust or corrode, for the automotive exhaust aftermarket … including Borla S-Type axle-back exhaust systems.

Installed behind the rear axle, Borla Touring axle-back exhaust systems replace the factory rear muffler(s) and exhaust pipe(s). Following the same exhaust path and secured using the original hangers and rubber isolators, Borla axle-back (or rear section) performance exhausts are less restrictive than factory exhaust systems and improve the sound level both inside and outside the cabin. With a mellower tone than their S-Type axle-backs, Borla Touring axle-back exhaust systems use engine-specific (not universal) mufflers that are designed, tested, and optimized specifically for a particular year, make, and model. They use the latest muffler designs to eliminate sound frequencies that cause harshness, resonance, and drone. In addition to superior muffler design, improvements in sound and performance are accomplished by using mandrel-bent tubing and the application of proper engine-matched tubing diameters. Welded tips are standard on most systems. MagnaFlow direct-fit catalytic converters are designed for easy bolt-on installation for the professional installer. Welding, cutting, and tube-bending equipment are not required. These cats feature a ribbed body that minimizes expansion and distortion when the converters heat up. The ribs form a channel that protects the cushioning mat from direct exposure to exhaust gases, and they hold the ceramic catalyst in proper alignment. MagnaFlow converters use a monolithic honeycomb catalyst; the ceramic coating is designed for maximum flow and surface area, and the coating method is strictly controlled to maintain exact specifications. Improper coating could result in flow restrictions or an emissions test failure. These converters are designed to exact OE specifications and are available for the most popular vehicle makes and models.

MagnaFlow universal catalytic converters by Car Sound form the basic building blocks for many applications. The main benefit of universal catalytic converters is that one unit may cover a wide variety of vehicle makes and models. Installing universal converters often requires the use of welding, cutting, and tube-bending equipment that is readily available to most professional installers. They are extremely well made, with features such as: * A ribbed body that minimizes expansion and distortion when the converter heats up. They form a channel that protects the cushioning mat from direct exposure to exhaust gasses, and hold the ceramic catalyst in proper alignment. * A 1/2 in. lap joint where the necks meet the body. The neck does not extend into the converter body, where it could hamper exhaust flow. * Manufactured with separate dies on different sized inlets. Putting larger neck sizes on smaller bodies would reduce the flow of the converter and the quality of the product. * A monolithic honeycomb catalyst. The ceramic is designed for maximum flow and surface area. The coating method is strictly controlled to maintain exact specifications. * Seam-welded close to the converter body for a strong, tight bond. Welding along the edge could allow the converter to expand like the folds in an accordion, allowing the catalyst to move around. * Heavier-gauge stainless steel, tip-to-tip. They do not use inferior mixed weights and materials. * An aluminized or stainless OEM-style ribbed heat shield that creates a rigid wall of protection against heat and adds to the structural stability of the converter.
