The manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP sensor) is one of the sensors used in a vehicle's electronic control system (ECU). The MAP sensors provide instantaneous manifold pressure information to the engine's computer (ECU). These Standard Motor Products replacement coolant level sensors provide the PCM with an analog input signal, along with an oxygen sensor, to go into the closed loop mode of controlling the fuel mixture. They are designed to provide actual engine temperature information to the PCM. The PCM then feeds the sensors a fixed reference voltage of usually 5 volts when the engine is on.
