Howards Cams uses a precision "E.D.M." laser to burn a .021 in. hole in the center of the face of their direct lube extreme-duty mechanical lifters. This allows for a constant oil supply to the cam lobe, resulting in higher valve spring pressures, more aggressive profiles, and reduced lobe wear.

They do this by testing and tuning them together on engine dynamometers for maximum performance. They work well with superchargers and nitrous, and will require springs, a tune, phaser limiter, and an MDS (multi-displacement system) delete. The smaller cams in this group have a noticeable lope and good power across the range, while the larger cams have a serious lope with strong top-end. Choose the one that best fits your purpose. Notes: * Pro Hemi automotive Stage 1 has a noticeable lope and works great in 5.7L as a daily driver. It makes good power through the range, and a tune and phaser limiter are required. A free flowing aftermarket exhaust is recommended. * Pro Hemi automotive Stage 2 has a mild lope and works great in a daily driver. It makes good power through the range, and a tune and phaser limiter are required. The lobe profile and grind characteristics of these Thumpr camshafts use a combination of an early exhaust valve opening, a long exhaust duration, and a generous amount of intake and exhaust overlap to maximize the rough-idling characteristics of the cams.
