Most modern transmission fluids have a few things in common: better heat and oxidation resistance, better shear stability so that the fluid doesn't lose viscosity over time, and a lower coefficient of friction needed for locking torque converters on modern cars. Lucas Multi-Vehicle ATF satisfies all these requirements; however, many cars and pickup trucks now use ATF that has a lower viscosity than traditional fluid, providing marginally better fuel economy.
