Fresh DOT 3 fluid has a boiling point of 401°F, so it’s fine for daily drivers. DOT 4 boils at 446°F and resists acidification better, so it’s better for performance vehicles.
DOT 5 brake fluid is silicone based, and boils at 500°F. It doesn’t absorb moisture, but it can develop foam, so it’s not advised for use with anti-lock braking systems.
