The new Ultra 6AL Plus ignition boxes deliver full MSD power in a compact, lighter package! The Ultra 6AL Series continues to use a high-speed controller that can make extremely quick compensations to the output voltage, multiple spark series, timing and rpm limits, while maintaining precise timing and accurate rev limiting. The circuits and controller of the MSD have been thoroughly filtered to create protection against Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI). Ultra 6AL Series features a capacitive discharge ignition design. (The majority of stock ignition systems are inductive ignitions, in which the coil must store and step up the voltage to maximum strength in between each firing. At higher RPM, since there's less time to charge the coil to full capacity, the voltage falls short of reaching maximum energy—which results in a loss of power or top end miss.) MSD magnetic pickup tach adapters maintain accurate tachometer readings. If you are using the magnetic pickup input (green and violet wires) to trigger your MSD Ignition, you will need one of these tach adapters. These units will correct the operation of most voltage-triggered tachometers that do not work directly off of the tach output terminal of your MSD unit.

MSD digital multi-retard timing controls provide four different stages of retard, along with an adjustable start retard feature--with no modules! These units use a high-speed RISC micro-controller to direct the timing functions. This controller can make extremely quick compensations to the timing, while maintaining accuracy to within 1 degree. These circuits are thoroughly de-bounced and isolated for protection against Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI). There is also an innovative magnetic pickup compensation circuit built-in to allow for rock-steady timing with a variety of different mag pickups. There are four separate retard stages that can be activated independently or together for a total sum of retards. Each stage is adjustable from 0-9 degrees, and a maximum of 20 degrees of retard can be pulled out. On top of these great features, there is also an optional start retard circuit that can be programmed to retard the timing 5, 10, 15, or 20 degrees during cranking. Digital multi-retard timing controls can be used on 4, 6, or 8-cylinder engines, and must be used with an MSD ignition control.
