Tri-metal alloys feature a steel base coated with a sintered layer of copper-lead alloy, followed by layers of electro-plated nickel and babbit to produce the ultimate bearings. Bi-metal aluminum types carry all of the same features without the babbit, as specified by many of today's top engine builders.
