The OE rocker arm bearing design is a proven weak link in high-performance LS engines because the bearings are unable to cope with high lift cams, higher valve spring pressures, and sustained high-RPM use. Plus, the uncaptured design allows the needle rollers to be ejected into the crankcase, potentially causing catastrophic engine damage. One way to fix these issues is with a full set of high-quality roller rocker arms. However, many builders prefer the lower cost and lightweight durability of stock rocker bodies. They are concentric within .005 T.I.R. thread pitch to thread pitch, which will give you more consistent rocker geometry. With an extra-large radius base, these studs are more resistant to flex and will provide a more positive seating. COMP Cams's XD-A pushrods offer a game-changing method for accurately setting lash or pre-load while using non-adjustable-style rockers. These patent-pending pushrods incorporate a top section that slides 2 in. inside a wider bottom section, with one or two shims captured in-between. Proven to 9,000-plus rpm in solid roller LS applications, the system provides a 90 percent increase in bending stiffness for enhanced valvetrain stability. It also allows for lightening of a rocker arm system by 30-plus grams on the backside by removing the adjuster and required support area for threads and seating. The use of lighter rockers with XD-A adjustable pushrods allow higher rpm to be achieved by creating a much more dynamically stable valvetrain system. COMP Cam XD-A pushrods are designed especially for engines with low-mass rocker arms and a light valvetrain with drop-in fitment in LS engines. They can be adjusted over a range of .172 in. in .004 in. increments with shims. Choose the pushrods with the adjustment range needed for your setup.
