Clevite H-Series main bearings were developed primarily for NASCAR racing, but are well suited to other types of competition engines as well. They're especially good for engines that run at medium-to-high revs. They have steel backings with carefully selected overlays and a high crush factor, plus a medium level of eccentricity. H-Series bearings have enlarged chamfers at the sides for greater crank-fillet clearance and are made without flash plating for better seating. They are also available with either 180 degree or 360 degree oil grooves, as well as an extra 0.001 in. of clearance.

Federal Mogul CP-Series rod bearings feature classic tri-metal construction and are a good choice for either street or moderate competition use. They have rugged 1010 steel backings, covered by Federal Mogul's H-24 copper-lead alloy. On top of this is a nickel barrier, followed by the tri-metal (lead-tin-copper) overplate that gives these bearings their strength and fatigue resistance. The bearings are then entirely covered with a flash coating of tin. Order the set designed for use with your make/model and engine application.

King XP-Series rod bearings feature advanced metallurgical and geometric technologies that meet extreme performance loads. They were developed for all performance applications that use forged steel aftermarket crankshafts and produce high loads for extended periods. King focuses on one product—bearings—and nothing else. Their innovative race-only Xtreme Performance Max Black Tri-Metal rod bearings have a 24 percent stronger overlay and 17 percent more fatigue strength by using a micro process called SecureBond. Built with enhanced tri-metal, King XP-Series rod bearings layer copper-lead construction with a nickel plate barrier and a lead/tin/copper Babbitt overlay over a steel backing in an adhesion process that provides superior stability and durability. King's advanced control measures hit a bull's-eye, maintaining wall thickness tolerances far tighter than their competitors—at an amazing +/- .0001 in.! XP-Series rod bearings are narrowed on the crank cheek side with increased crush height for improved bearing-to-bore contact, heat transfer, and reduced spin potential in high-rpm applications.

King HP-Series rod bearings were developed mainly for drag race applications needing a material harder than the Babbitt top layer. These applications demanded a structure that could withstand high loads for short durations and still offer higher embeddability and compatibility. In response, King developed the HP-Series, featuring the Alecular metal structure. The HP-Series is also suited for many performance applications with nodular cast iron crankshafts, such as street, strip, and some levels of Circle Track racing. Order the set recommended for your vehicle. HP-Series bearings are particularly suitable for the following cases: * When a tri-metal bearing's Babbitt overlay extrudes over the sides, migrates to one end, or is physically removed by the crankshaft * When the intermediate layer of a tri-metal bearing is exposed, damaging the crank journal and requiring expensive grinding or replacement * When contaminants enter the oil stream, scratching and damaging the crankshaft journals

If you liked the results you used to get with Vandervell bearings--especially their higher conformability--then you should love Clevite V-Series main bearings. Built on unplated steel backings, for better dimensional accuracy and bore contact, they have low-to-medium eccentricity. The biggest difference between V-Series and other Clevite 77 bearings is their lead-indium surface alloy, which gives them that extra conformability. Unlike Vandervell main bearings, Clevite V-Series main-bearing sets use a single-piece thrust bearing, so you don't need separate, assembled thrust bearings. Extra-clearance variations are available to provide an additional 0.001 or 0.002 in. of clearance.

If you're building a serious performance engine, then you'll want to consider Speed-Pro Competition Series main bearings. They were developed in NASCAR and Pro Stock competition, so you know they're tough. The bearings are built on premium 1020AK steel backings and overlaid with Speed-Pro's super-duty H-14 alloy. That layer is then covered with a nickel barrier, followed by a thin lead-tin-copper overplate. However, unlike other performance bearings, there is no flash tin layer on top of that. Speed-Pro's engineers have determined that such a layer can actually move around under high loads—sometimes with undesirable consequences. Depending on the application, these main bearings have oil grooves for enhanced lubrication, while maintaining a maximum bearing surface area. They also feature Speed-Pro's exclusive contoured-flange thrust bearing technology for higher thrust-loading capacity. Competition Series main bearings are available in nearly a hundred configurations for countless vehicle and engine applications.

King HP-Series main bearings are recommended for street and strip performance applications. They're designed for blown, turbocharged, NOS, and alcohol-fueled engines using aftermarket crankshafts. These main bearings have greater eccentricity for superior oiling at high rpm, and a chamfered surface for large radii crankshafts. HP-Series bearings also feature large, chamfered oil holes—and are available in 1/2 grooving for improved oiling to withstand high-rpm applications. Order the bearings designed for fitment with your specific engine.
