They're made from lightweight aluminum, feature large inlet and outlet ports, and are painted black for maximum heat transfer. Multiple cooling paths give them the cooling capacity of larger fin-and-tube coolers. And, because they have a low pressure-drop design, there is less oiling system restriction.
