EMPI recreated these roof racks—a popular VW accessory from the 50's and 60's—to hold luggage, a cooler or camping gear securely, while looking "Old School" cool. By moving cargo to the roof, you create more room inside the car for passengers and essentials, leading to a more comfortable trip. Properly loading a roof rack also helps distribute weight more evenly, which can improve your vehicle's handling and stability. Made from tubular steel and jig welded, the roof racks come finished in a silver powdercoat and feature wood slats—just like the originals! Some racks, such as the Type 2 wood slat versions, feature a "knock-down" design for an easier assembly.
