The Standard versions bolt onto the face of the pump and the case finish is not as critical. The direct-fit versions indicate on the outside diameter of the pump and require precise machining. ATI Superplate Flexplates were developed in ATI's tradition of staying ahead of the rampant increases in horsepower that are common in the performance industry today. Superplates are manufactured from a super-strong material to withstand thousands of cycles. They are laser-machined rather than stamped to avoid the heat and stress stamping inflicts. The crank bolt holes are bored in position to exacting tolerances in both size and location on CNC machines. Superplates use the grip length of the crank bolts as dowels to prevent the plate from moving under high-torque conditions. Unlike billet plates that violate the "flex principle" of a flexplate, Superplates flex like OEM plates, absorbing the numerous machining tolerances that exist in our non-exact world.
