Questions & Answers Ask a Product Question
Q:

How soon can I wet sand and buff this clear coat

Asked by THOMAS on September 24, 2017

A:

I waited 48 Hours to allow the clear to cure. I would wait too much longer because the clear will get too hard to work with

Q:

I used this clear coat over summits ss paint my first coat laid down smooth and glossy, but my second coat began to wrinkle almost instantly. can any one explain why this happen and how can I avoid this or what I did wrong etc... luckily I only got half the hood lol any input would be helpful, thanks... ps. first time painter

Asked by on July 26, 2017

A:

possibly the temperature got too hot for the activator or reducer you were using. Amid temp product will dry too fast in temps above 90 degrees

Q:

I know the instructions say apply 2 Coats of this clear with about 15 mins flash time... But I would prefer actually to lay down 3 or more coats. Can this be done with good results, and does it change or increase flash times between coats at all? Am I risking wrinkling or curing issues? Thx, Dave.

Asked by DAVID on March 21, 2018

A:

Standard in custom jobs is 3 coats. When you polish it you have layers to work with. It depends on the temperature when you are laying it down. If it is warm (70°) you are good with 15 min flash time.

Answer This Question

Q:

I accidentally mixed this clear 3 to 1 instead of 4 to 1. How big of a problem will this be? It sprayed pretty well and appears to be fine, just not sure.

Asked by DALE on December 02, 2017

A:

Thank you for your question. The Summit SWSC620G-12 2-Stage System Low 2.1 VOC Clear Coat is designed to be mixed in a 4 to 1 ratio. Mixing it in a 3 to 1 ratio will not harm anything and it will still spray fine. It will be less clear than a hardener and a little softer, but nothing to cause concern.
