Questions & Answers Ask a Product Question
Q:

Can this be used for Valvesprings on an 2017 Silverado with the L83 5.3? LS valvespring compressors don't work on LT heads

Asked by ZACHARY on September 27, 2017

A:

You should use a valve spring compressor specifically for your application. As far as I know this style of compressor is designed for the old style pushrod engines. There should be a video on the internet showing what to use and how to do what you need to do.

Q:

Will this work on heads that are off the engine?

Asked by MERRILL on December 18, 2018

A:

Thank you for your question. The Summit 906784valve spring compressors will work on cylinder heads off the engine. Because you are using the rocker stud to pry against the spring you would need to have the cylinder head mounted to something solid but that wouldn't necessarily need to be the engine.

Q:

do you need compressed air to push up the valve while using this tool?

Asked by SAMUEL on December 10, 2017

A:

I used Air with this tool
My valves fit tight but best to pump it up.
My springs were 1.64 dia
Tool doesn’t push spring down flat but I was able to make it work without too much trouble.
Have new keepers ready to go before you start
Good luck

Q:

Can this be used on 1987 Mercedes Benz 420 sel valves?

Asked by BRYANT on July 10, 2016

A:

Thank you for your question. Summit 906784 valve spring compressor is only designed for overhead valve applications with 3/8 in. or 7/16 in. rocker arm studs. Your Mercedes 420SEL is an overhead cam application and will not work with this spring compressor.

Valve Spring Compressor SUM-906784

This spring compressor is a dream. I first saw one used on U-Tube and could see the obvious upsides. The way it locks down allows your full attention and the use of both hands to play with those keepers and tricky little seals. HOWEVER it's fingers seem to be a few degrees off the best angle because it compresses the retainer off center and I had to improvise a shim deal to prevent it from damaging the new stem seals when releasing the spring pressure. Now maybe I'm doing something wrong but there was no instructions included to help with some of the fine points. ...read more

A good tool with a long lever handle to make spring compression easy. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is that the fingers of the saddle piece that straddles the valve while pressing down on the spring wasn't at quite the proper angle for compressing springs on my Pontiac heads. It would press down unevenly on the spring, causing it to push the valve stem to the side tight against the guide. This was easily fixed by unscrewing the saddle from the tool and putting it in a vice to bend the fingers slightly to reduce the finger angle. Took about two minutes to get right. ...read more

This spring compressor works great for replacing springs with the heads installed. I love the way it over-centers compressing the valve springs so you can work hands free while installing the new springs, keepers & locks. It was a good tool to replace the springs in my '64 Lemans convertible for my new Lunati voodoo cam. These springs were very stout (triples) and it compresses them easily. The only issue & the only reason I do not give it 5 stars is for the same problem everyone previously stated. The angle is a little off. I simply put it in a vice and smacked it with a 5lb. sledge to adjust the angle. You could also put shims under it to correct for this. ...read more

Made easy work of my giant solid roller springs. The handle locks and allows use of both hands. The right tool for the job.

Locks securely making removing and reinstalling valve springs and retainers easy! Very strong too, held up to high strength solid roller springs. Works with 3/8" & 7/16" studs. Did need to tweak compression plate to ensure straight compression though.
