Camshaft Manufacturers Description: The Summit Stage 2 Turbo cam is specifically developed for turbocharged applications. It will spool quickly and minimizes reversion caused by high turbine inlet pressures. It also works well as a high-lift version of the SUM-8714 Stage 4 truck cam. It has state-of-the-art lobe designs stable to well over 7000 rpm with as little as 150 lbs. of seat pressure.

Notes: Not for AFM or VVT equipped engines. Summit Pro LS cams are designed for engines swapped into pre-pollution controlled vehicles. They are not for use in registered emissions-controlled vehicles operated on public highways and roads. 3-bolt camshaft, computer tuning required.

The Summit Racing Pro LS Turbo cams are affordable and specifically designed to optimize cam timing with turbochargers. The lobes are stable up to 7,000-plus rpm with the exhaust lobes opening softly against high cylinder pressure for reduced stress on the valve train. Overlap has also been reduced in order to prevent reversion, which is typically seen with higher turbine inlet pressures. They come in distinct stages that give you the idle, spool, and power characteristics that match your engine and turbocharger. Starting with American bearing steel, they are precision machined on a Landis 3LB CNC grinder with CBN diamond wheels for unmatched quality. The lobes have been designed for stability at high rpm with the spring pressures found in commonly available quality spring packs.

Does this camshaft require a front cam sensor or the stock rear of block common on Gen III engines?

A:

Thank you for your question. SUM-8706 has the correct notch in the rear for a Gen. 3 cam pickup. If you are using an early Gen. 4 with a 24X computer, you’ll need a 3 bolt 1X (pole) upper gear p/n NAL-12576407. With a 58X ECM, you can use a 4x (pole) 3-bolt upper gear p/n NAL-12586481. If using Gen. 4 front cover in an early Gen. 3 application, a harness adapter like ICB-WECAM30-48 can be used.

Is it ok to run this cam N/A until I get my turbo kit and install it? It might take the better part of a year.

A:

Thank you for your question. The SUM-8706 Stage 2 turbo cam is identical to the Stage 2 automotive N.A. cam except the exhaust closing point has been pulled back 5 degrees to reduce overlap. The exhaust lobe's intensity is a little lower to reduce stress on the valvetrain. This cam will work very well until the turbo kit is installed and even better afterwards.

Thank you for your question. A Mark IV hydraulic roller cam similar in duration would be a HRS-120245-12. Due to many differences between engines and usage, please give Summit a call to help you dial in a cam to your needs.
