Camshaft Manufacturers Description: The Summit Stage 2 drop-in Truck cam makes great mid-range and top-end power. It’s the largest recommended with a stock converter. It has a slight lope depending on idle speed. No springs required, but LS6 springs are recommended to extend the rpm range.

Notes: Not for AFM or VVT equipped engines. Summit Pro LS cams are designed for engines swapped into pre-pollution controlled vehicles. They are not for use in registered emissions-controlled vehicles operated on public highways and roads. 3-bolt camshaft, computer tuning required.

The Summit Racing Pro LS Truck Swap cams are affordable and give you maximum punch where the torque converter hits. The cam lobes are designed for excellent valve train longevity. Both drop-in or high-lift versions are available. They come in stages allowing you to quickly determine which gives you the idle and efficiency you are looking for. Idle response and the midrange torque from theses camshafts is unmatched. Starting with American bearing steel, they are precision machined on a Landis 3LB CNC grinder with CBN diamond wheels for an extremely good finish quality. The lobes have been designed for stability at high rpm with the spring pressures found in commonly available, quality spring packs.

Thank you for your question. The Summit 8701 LS camshaft is for the LS engines and would be best served with Chevrolet Performance 12499224 valve springs and a good ECM tune. Check out suggested parts to see what else would benefit this type of camshaft swap.

Not with this cam. I installed with factory converter in a 4L60E. No issue whatsoever. 112 LSA gives it a nice idle. Choppy enough to be noticed, but not too much so where it's difficult to drive.

A:

Thank you for your question. The SUM-8701 isn't legal for sale or use in a pollution controlled vehicle, but if the engine is swapped into a pre-emissions vehicle it will work very well. It has a very strong mid range and top end. It will loose a little power up to 2500 rpm. It will have a noticeable idle, but will have good throttle response with a good tune. The CMB-09-0029 includes a front gasket, seal, oil pump O-rings, water pump gasket, balancer bolt, LS2 timing chain and valve cover gaskets.

Thank you for your question. The SUM-8701 will fit without going into coil bind, but it's recommended that you install LS6 springs p/n 12499224. This will increase the rev range of the engine.

I ordered this cam for my daily driver 6.0 2500hd gmc and let me tell ya. It is a nice little choppy cam. I degreed it in and it was right on the money! I would highly recommend this cam. Don’t be scared of the “summit” brand camshaft. I believe it is actually a melling grind with a summit logo on it. Would order it again if I had to. Definitely needs to be tuned. ...read more

I put the cam in my 01 5.3 lm7. I have around 500 miles on it so far with no issues yet. It has a nice choppy idle and I can definitely feel an increase in power especially on the top end. 3500rpm+. You definitely need a tune. I drilled my throttle body and it's drive able but still stalls coming to stops sometimes. Would recommend a tune and a converter but it can work just dropping it in with drilling the throttle body. I'll update this if I have any issues. ...read more

Installed in an Trailblazer SS. Rig is a daily driver and used to tow often. Wanted something with stock stall manners but also have just a tiny bit of chop. I know these are very similar as to what is used in the LS3 480 crate engines and should not be difficult to gain good power out of them.

Choppy little cam

Installed in a LQ9 and gave it that awesome choppy idle I always wanted. Nothing too crazy and seems to still keep its low end according to the butt dyno. Never drove the motor with the stock cam so cant compare, but this makes it sound nice and run fine with some PCM tuning. Never really been around a lot of choppy idle motors so it sounds awesome to me. I drive from idle to 3,500 most all the time so this cam works great for me since I don't need the top end increased. This is in a lifted truck with 4.56 gears. This cam really sounds great with some 2 chamber style mufflers and gives it that classic muscle car sound. If this is your first engine build or cam swap like me, I would say you wont be disappointed listening to it idling in your vehicle. Its the cheaper version of GM hot cam and works just fine if all you want is great sounding idle. ...read more

Its basically a gmpp hot cam copy. Noticible choppy idle. Vacuum readings are 12" in park & 9" in drive on a 5.3L. Drives nice. Still tunig it (I'm a total newb with hp tuners). Did some searching in forums and google and the general opinions are thats a bit difficult to tune, not much power gains and there are better cams in that category with better hp gains and manners.
