Questions & Answers Ask a Product Question

I have a 1983 s 10 blazer that i converted to rear discs. My existing proportioning valve has two ports in and two ports out. Can I just plug one of the outlets on this proportioning valve?

Asked by on July 17, 2017

I believe you can. It's 1 out for rear and 2 for front

Answer This Question

Will this work if you have front disk brakes already and convert rear drums to disk brakes.

Asked by on June 29, 2017

Yes, this valve is designed to be able to support rear disk brakes. We put if on a 97 GMC Suburban that we have converted to a Cummins 12 valve diesel engine and GM 6L80 transmission. We removed the ABS since they work marginally well and replaced that with this p[roportioning valve. We still have the rear drum brakes on the vehicle but our next portion of this project is to either replace the rear axle with one from a late model Escalade with disc brakes or put rear disk brakes on the current axle and that is why we used the valve that will support rear disk brakes. The Summit site says it will support rear disc brakes.

What is the proportioning reduction on this valve front to rear?

Asked by DERREK on January 01, 2018

A proportioning valve regulates brake line pressure distributing more pressure to the front brakes where 65% of a car's braking power is. This type of valve was used on GM cars when disc breaks first came out (mid/late 60s). The valve was needed because disc brakes require more brake line pressure then drum brakes anyway.

I am doin a rear disc conversion on a 86 Monte Carlo ss will this work without any other modifications

Asked by GARY on June 23, 2018

Thank you for your question. The SUM-760185 proportioning valve will work well with your 4-wheel disc configuration. You may need to modify the fitting or line size depending on your stock configuration.
