These Summit® OE-style dampers are ideal for those mild street rebuilds that don't require the expense of a high-buck race damper. They feature durable nodular construction with bonded elastomer between the inner and outer rings. They also have engraved timing marks, which means no timing tape!

My crankshaft has never been tapped for a damper bolt. Can this be used only pressure fitted on as some earlier engines were? Or is it recommended to tap and bolt on?

I tapped my old 283 out just to be sure. I think if it came off a new radiator would be expensive when the damper went through it!

I followed instructions, cleaned the crankshaft end, lubed it, heated the damper to 200 degrees. I attempted to drive on with a wooden block. It would not go past about 1/4 " on. Had to use a puller to get it off. I felt inside the damper and noticed the opening got smaller about 1/4" into the opening. I attempted to mic the chaft and damper opening. I only have a plastic mic. so accuracy may be off. It seems the damper opening is smaller than the crankshaft. Is this possible? Is there a possibility my crankshaft is an odd size. This crankshaft replaced the original, in 1968 the "factory?" crankshaft broke and was replaced. Thanks for any help

Works so much easier with a damper installation tool, problem with the wooden block method is if it gets cocked just a hare to the side, it makes it really tough to get on. Check your woodroof key for burrs and make sure it is installed at proper depth. They don't slide on easy, takes a lot of pressure.

Thank you for your question. The Summit 161350 harmonic balancer would fit a 1995 chevy engine. 1995 Mustang engines would have had a 50 oz. imbalance 302 engine. Check out the Summit 163302 harmonic balancer and make sure you use the matching pulleys on a ford so you don't have alignment issues or pully bolt pattern problems.
