Good Quality, Mixed Results

QA1-HK03-GMG1
First let me say that the quality on this kit is awesome, the fit and finish is clean, the welds are great and you really feel like you are installing a quality set of components. The directions that come with the kit are fantastic and all encompassing. The main problem is a ride height limitation of the hybrid style coilovers. I ordered the kit with 550lb springs to help turn my iron headed small block Chevy powered 1986 Monte Carlo SS into an autocross car. The biggest problem is ride height, even with the spring perch as low as it will go, the car is still only about .5 inches below factory ride height. The laughable suggestion from QA1 was to go to a 350lb spring. On a street car for looks, sure a lower spring rate might be tolerable, but not a car built for track days and autocross competition. QA1 does not offer custom length hybrid springs which is unfortunate. The only possible option to lower the car further is the use of a taller lower ball joint which I purchased but have not installed yet. I wanted to rate the kit lower, but despite the ride height not being where i want it, the car does ride and handle excellent. The adjustable shocks in a sport tuning are firm and crisp, but when put into a comfort tuning ride like a Cadillac. I'm really hoping that QA1 eventually offer shorter, higher spring rate options for this coilover kit. I would surely buy a few sets for tuning purposes. ...read more
