Chevrolet Performance 350 C.I.D. Base Engine Assemblies

Gen 1 5.7L crate engines are excellent entry-level performance engines for older cars, trucks, and street rods. All of the parts in these engines are brand new. These Chevrolet Performance Goodwrench 5.7L/350 c.i.d. engines have approximately 8.5:1 compression with a horsepower rating of 249 hp and 304 ft.-lbs. of torque. These crate engines have a 4.00 in. bore and a 3.48 in. stroke with 4-bolt mains and 2-piece rear main seals.

Camshaft specifications are .390 in. intake lift and .410 in. exhaust lift. The open duration is 195 degrees intake and 202 degrees exhaust at .050 in. with a 112 degree lobe separation. The cylinder heads are cast iron with 1.94 in. intake valves and 1.50 in. exhaust valves, 76cc combustion chambers, and 7-bolt style exhaust flanges. These engines include painted valve covers, oil pans, and timing covers. They are drilled for both left hand and right hand dipsticks.

When installed in the following vehicles, these engines carry a 36-month or 100,000-mile warranty:

* 1975-78 Chevy/GMC pickup (C1)
* 1975 Chevy/GMC Blazer, Jimmy (C1)
* 1975 Chevy/GMC van (G1)
* 1978-80 Chevy/GMC van (G2,3)
* 1979-85 Chevy/GMC pickup, Suburban, Blazer, Jimmy (K1)
* 1979-80 Chevy/GMC pickup, Suburban, Blazer, Jimmy (CK1)
* 1979-80 Chevy/GMC Suburban (CK 1, 2)
* 1979-85 Chevy/GMC Suburban (CK 1)
* 1980-85 Chevy/GMC van (G1, 2, 3)
* 1981-82 Chevy/GMC pickup (CK1)
* 1983-85 Chevy Caprice Classic, Impala (B)
* 1973-80 Chevy Corvette (Y)
* 1984-85 Pontiac Parisienne (B)

If this engine is installed in any other application, it has a 12 month or 12,000-mile warranty (parts only, no labor).

Dyno test numbers are from an independent test as reported by Hot Rod Magazine using a GM cast iron Quadrajet intake, Quadrajet carburetor, HEI distributor and 1-5/8 in. long tube headers.

Q:

ok I got the long block with the number on Block 10066036 how do I date this engine to start ordering parts ? they are all over the charts if I look it up on-line

Asked by JOE on 6/25/2016

Thank you for your question. The Chevrolet Performance 10067353 uses a block with a 2 piece rear main seal. Theses crate engines were designed to fit carbureted vehicles but there was no specific year/make/model that will be associated with that casting number of 10066036. Most parts from 1968 to 1986 will interchange, but if you have any questions or concerns please contact our sales staff and we will be happy to answer any inquiries.

I went off of a 73 or 74. That's what engine I had before and everything bolted on. That's the year I used for everything except the distributor. Bought a stock 76 hei dist from a local parts store. Worked awesome. What part are you most concerned about? Things I needed that I didn't initially consider: Oil filter adapter Balancer (local parts store only had the bigger diameter version, it worked fine) Grommets for valve cover holes were too small for anything I could find, had to rig up something. Water temp sensor

Basically 1985 and older is what this will fit, any carb motor. So just order for 1984 and you be safe.

If you ordered part number 10067353 from summit then 1986 and earlier small block Chevy parts will work. If you have a 2wd vehicle then the oil filter adapter works with normal size oil filter. If you have a four-wheel-drive vehicle and Using the oil filter adapter then you will need to use the shorter oil filter so it doesn't contact front 4wd drive shaft. ALSO, INSTALL DIPSTICK BEFORE YOU INSTALL MOTOR. Drivers side worked for me the best. It calls for a 1979 and earlier model dipstick. All Sbc 350 engines were the exact same up until 1987. I installed aluminum heads, cam, headers, Edelbrock eps performer intake, chip with TBI injection and an adapter plate. Have close to 400 ft lbs of torque.

I ordered parts for 350 engines built between 1973 to 1985. 1986 and later blocks have a one piece rear main seal and pre 73 blocks have a thinner rubber seal between the oil pan and timing cover.

I would say 500 miles is a fair statement. Do not run it at highway speeds for long times at first . better off driving it in town and alternating gas and speed for first 100 miles.

Q:

Will the intake manifold from my 1989 305 work on this motor?

Asked by JOHN on 2/12/2017

Yes it will work. The only difference between the 305 and 350 is the bore/piston size.

Good overall engine for a stock replacement

Good engine, easy to deal with but if there was one thing to complain about it is that the oil filler is on the drivers side rear of the valve cover. With a brake booster and any other smog stuff on the engine, you cannot get to it. On every one of the engines, i have to swap the valve covers to make them work. That puts the oil filler up front on the passenger side. It also needs to come with a plug for the oil dipstick hole. There are two holes, one in each side, both of them are open and I have to figure out a good plug for the one I don't need. I know these are knit picking but they make a difference.
